Debra Allen's Home Address Part 2

An interesting war of the words has developed in the Daily Pilot. On one side you have Newport Beach's life-long public servant Debra Allen. She's been on the Planning Commission, Park Beaches and Recreations Commission, she's the figurehead for Speak Up Newport, everybody involved in the City in one way or another has been to her house, she was a fixture in the 90's Republican Party of Orange County, her husband Barry (super Democrat) has tried to be subversive of most everything she stands for, and so on and so on. Everybody in Newport Beach politics knows Debra and most anyone running for office in CDM needs to know her. Plus, she's a nice lady. On the other side, you have the Los Angeles Times-owned Daily Pilot. The Daily Pilot is THE NEWS, the BIBLE in Newport Beach, as I have referred to it in the past. The fact that the insular world that is Newport Beach has to "share" the Bible with Costa Mesa is a tolerated afterthought. When something shows up in the Orange County Register about Newport Beach, there's barely a nudge within the City (Orange County hears it, but Newporters don't care what the rest of Orange County thinks about Newport Beach). If that same thing shows up in the Daily Pilot, "people" in Newport Beach talk, and talk, and talk. Publisher Tom Johnson, reporter Alicia Robinson and former Editor S.J. Cahn show up at events and people line up to be interviewed by them. Debra accuses the Daily Pilot for blowing something settled out of proportion, the Daily Pilot claims that "She joins the parks commission and gets a park put in there. Then she invites every member or person that has ever wanted to be on the City Council and all city staffers over so they'll be on her side. No conflict there." Ouch. Debra demands an apology. The Daily Pilot claims she is using threats. Wow. Will there be resolution at tonight's marathon City Council Meeting? Knowing how this City Hall vs. Park issue has been dragging on and on, probably not. City Halls have historically been that albatross around a City Council's neck, dragging down every City Council into years and years of wasted money and tarnished political careers. Time will tell if it will drag down Debra Allen's well-deserved WONDERFUL reputation too. I hope not, but that's what happens when you get involved in with that albatross.
