Again from the OCBlog.net and from Mike Spence over at the FlashReport.org, Newport's own hero Gil Ferguson passed away Sunday evening. His Principle over Politics was a Saturday, monthly staple. His Conservative activism legendary. Condolences to his beautiful bride Anita and to their family. Rest in Peace.
Update - Here's Martin Wisckol's note from the OC Register.

Our Gil......
There are great men....there are men that sacrifice themselves
to save others...there are men that know the truth...there are
men that say the truth.....there are men with love of country
in their hearts......there are men who know the meaning of
family and propriety..........there are men who know wisdom.
God bless you Gil.....you came through every time for the
little guy and for those you cared about.....nothing greater
can be said of anyone! And just in case not everyone had
noticed......you certainly got a tremendous amount done!
Thanks for saving our freedoms for a few more years! We
will always owe you the grateful debt of appreciation and
honor for your name ... by your example!
All our love,

*Former Assemblyman Ferguson dies
"Gil was straight up. He was one of my mentors. We didn't agree on everything – he was frustrated with what he called 'the machine' (of the local GOP). I'm not sure I agree with that conspiracy theory. … (But he) wasn't afraid to take on the establishment and that endeared him to a lot of people." Orange County supervisor John Moorlach on the death of former Republican Assemblyman Gil Ferguson.
Ferguson served in the Assembly from 1984 to 1994, and started an O.C. tradition - People Over Politics, which sponsored conservative speakers and eventually turned into a monthly breakfast club. Ferguson was 84, and suffered from leukemia. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has ordered the Capitol flag lowered to half staff.
