Something to Believe In...

This just came across my email. Please make sure to GET INVOLVED and make the County Supervisors know to keep the Golf Course a Golf Course. Thanks to Nancy Alston for the link back to my blog.

Dear AirFair Supporter,

You recently provided your email address to AirFair so that we could keep you apprised of any important developments regarding John Wayne Airport. We appreciate that interest, concern, and determination to keep our community free of any further expansion of the airport.

There is a current issue that we believe has the potential to be a problem. We encourage you to read the following information, which provides details, facts, and opinions on the subject.

Just outside the boundary of JWA is a popular public golf course. Nine of their holes are on land that they have leased from our County, and that lease expires in the very near future. Unfortunately, the County is currently considering whether they will continue leasing to the golf course or lease it to another source. AirFair became concerned when we learned that one source being considered is a rental car storage/parking for John Wayne Airport.

Losing that golf course would be a waste of a low-cost, enjoyable recreational resource for our families. It would be one more loss to our community of a beautiful, green open space. However, AirFair believes the most serious threat is the one we have all dreaded: the erasure of a clear line of demarcation, which has helped prevent the southern expansion (across the 73 Freeway) of Airport operations. This could create a potential precedent for a continued push southward of Airport support facilities. The last thing we want is an increased JWA footprint.

Orange County Supervisors will be making the decision regarding the lease of that property. They are interested in the opinions of the citizens they serve. Please take the time to contact them with your views on the subject. We have provided contact information for your convenience.
