Annoying Adults?

*Disclaimer - I'm not making light of this article and this article regarding the sick deviant who is stalking young children in Newport Beach recently. As a father of three young ones, I hope they catch this guy soon and burn him.

With that said, after seeing the OC Register headline, "Newport Police warn about man annoying kids" I couldn't help but think about the campaign being waged in the City Hall/Park and how this battle should be named...get ready for this...

"Newport Police warn about Men/Women Annoying Adults."

Newport Beach's Bible has been covering this pretty extensively, even creating a video interview to accompany this article about the City Hall's unofficial architect, Architect Bill Ficker, who has initiated the ballot petition process to have our fair city put the City Hall location to the vote of the people. On the other side of this topic is this group who want to keep the park a park.

This wonderful albatross around the neck of the City Council has already split the City Council, spawned Robo-Calling, put Debra Allen's home address front and center, and made Mayor Rosansky bang his gavel in frustration/anger...which will all escalate as Bill Ficker gets closer to getting his necessary signatures to get this issue onto the ballot. Then expect mail, lots of mail, phone calls, yard signs, and people standing in front of the market/post office asking for their support. All over something which a huge majority of the City's residents will NEVER SET FOOT IN and will PUT THE CITY INTO MAJOR DEBT FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.

Summer fun...

Whoa! Are you saying that Newport Beach doesn't need a new City Hall? If so, what's the solution to the overcrowding and deplorable working conditions?

Question #1 - Need or Want a New City Hall? No the City doesn't NEED a new City Hall, but it's pretty obvious the City Employees WANT a New City Hall. The Police HQ isn't on the Peninsula and there are other Fire Stations in the area, so I don't buy that our City will fall apart if there is a catastrophic earthquake and/or Tsunami which takes the City Hall out. Plus, I think there would be other major problems in store if such a natural disaster takes place and the City Hall would be last thing on your and my mind.
Question #2 - How about reducing the size of government? For the 2006-2007 Fiscal year, the total Salary and Benefits nut was $101,150,018 (2007-2008 is $108,528,278), with approximately 944 Full and Part Time Employees, with an average salary of $107,128. We are talking Government Employees here. The City Council is going in the right direction with the outsourcing of trash services in Newport Coast (although there has been other problems with that...)

New City Halls have always created problems within Cities and for how much conflict they will produce within the City, how many residents truly benefit from a $30 million to $60 million City Hall? What if the City put that towards traffic easement or parks or fields or other services which would truly benefit a greater percentage of the City Residents. With all that is going on in Costa Mesa, what if they had filled up City Hall so much, with employees, that they wanted to put the City into debt for the next 30 years. I bet you more than half to 2/3 of the people DO NOT know where City Hall even is, but they'd all have to pay for it. We had a City Councilman a few years back in NB who, during his campaign, had to be given instructions on how to get to our City Hall by his political consultant.
